I have just found out that it is very possible that a vehicle I have purchased has a personalised Registration Number plate put on by a previous owner.
However apart from the handbook, service details, normal V5 document and MOT that shows the current number on the vehicle, (which I did checked on the HPI, AA & DVLA websites) the motor trade seller did not pass on any other document like the V750 certificate of entitlement or assignment.
1] How can I check if this has actually happened - or if this was the original Reg number or not.
2] I am concerned that I will have a problem if I ever want to put on my own personalised number or further down the line problems with a future buyer when the time comes for me to sell the vehicle.
I'm sure this must have happened to others before, so any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks
CK

You only need the V5, if you have the V5 with the registration on in your name then you can do what you want with the plate.

If ever you sell a car with your own registration on and you didn’t get it transferred off before the new V5 was issued you’ve lost entitlement to it and the new owner (the one with the new V5 has it).

If you want to put the registration that is on the car onto retention you can do this online with the DVLA.
