Hi all,

Back with another question re. import documentation.

I was on to Mercedes Benz' homogulation department a few weeks ago, and I was told that in order to import the missus' LHD E200K from the continent, we needed to request a "Mutual Regognition/Certificate of Compliance" document.

We sent off the £££ and we're eagerly awaiting said document. I phoned yer man up at the office to ask if the CoC had been sent, and he said that he is only sending a "letter of mutual recognition", that this should be sufficient to import the car.

Does anyone know if that is correct? From everything we've read so far, it would appear that they need to give us a Certificate of Conformity, rather than a "letter of mutual recognition".

The only reference that I can find regarding said document of mutual recognition seems to be something that the VCA issues... unless Mercedes uses a different terminology?

I think that they recognize and have a trust between MB and the import people, and I have heard that this is acceptable

Whew... I hope so!

I've not had very good experiences with MB here in the UK, so I was just double-checking.

Thanks for responding!

The other thing here is since the ECU it is said that what is good enough for one country is good enough for another, with cars they all conform now to one set of regs, unlike a few years back where it was a pain when importing.

It will sail through :D:D

Cool... if we ever receive it (first attempt was lost in the post), I'll let you know how it works out.

Now I just need to figure out what happened to the factory alarm/immobiliser but that is a different thread! :)

Where are you importing the car from if it is within the EU you need nothing just take it for an mot after adjusting the headlights and go and register it nothing could be simpler. There are no real import export problems for cars within the EU.

We're importing it from another EU country... so I'm hoping it goes smoothly.

The garage that sorted out the fog lamp for us brought the car to get it's MOT, and the headlamps actually passed with some strategically-placed gaffa tape.

I'm just after speaking with yer man from MB, and he has send another version of the letter of compliance to my wife's work address. With any luck, we'll have the car registered by the end of next week!

Thanks again for all the advice!

A digital speedo could be a good defence if stopped for going too fast.

When asked how fast you were going you could say "about the speed limit, figuratively speaking"! Boom boom!

Hi all... back again!

So, I received a "Declaration of Certificate of Compliance" from Mercedes in the post yesterday. However, it doesn't have all the fields I was expecting it to have.

For example, on the V55/5 form, the instructions for filling out such fields as "NOx g/km or g/kWh" state that the data can be found on the Certificate of Compliance, field X.

My CoC simply states the chassis no, engine no and some other info, nothing in great detail.

Also... have any of you who have gone this route also filled out a form for the VCA?

Thanks!

Okay... so I ended up converting the headlamps - good thing too, as the previous owner had installed an aftermarket Xenon kit that wasn't wired correctly - and sent the garage receipts and all sorts of other info to the VCA on Friday.

I called the VCA yesterday for an update, and they said the documents were accepted and they'd be issuing us the necessary paperwork to go to the DVLA. Best of all, they'd be sending everything out that evening via Special Delivery to arrive today prior to 13:00.

Alas... one o'clock came and went. The tracking number they gave me states that the item hasn't been scanned yet... very odd, so I phone them back up.

Seems that their franking machine broke, and that they have no idea when it will be repaired, or when the documents will go out. Oh well, sounded too good to be true!

Now I hope that they or Royal Mail doesn't end up losing them in the post.

At least they gave you a frank answer;):D
