Question about starting

Had a bit of a senior moment and left the keys in the ignition and as a result it wouldn't start. The airflow control was set to around one and the radio was on mute. The central locking worked ok and the dash display appeared normal. A jump start sorted me out ok but I have a couple of questions that some of you may be able to help me with.

Does the car go into some sort of 'safe' mode when the battery runs low in order to prevent a complete drain?. I have checked the handbook but can't find any reference to such a system/program.

Secondly I was suprised that having just the fan and radio on would have reduced the capacity of the battery so much. I have had no problems with starting and would travel an average of forty five mile a day so the battery should be charged up ok. Have any other members experienced something similar.

Hopefully this is just a 'one off' and the battery has not been affected too much.

Look forward to any advice you may have.

14 hours from the fan say 5 amps = 70 amps, so battery flat, the radio is neither here no there as the volume was turned to min, so add 14 amps more and we have 84amps, plus the car could not go to sleep.

The cars alternator is not designed for charging flat batteries, and it would have been better to trickle charge it. But its all ok with no faults, and nothing to worry about

Malcolm,
That explains it . One charger about to be purchased (just in case).

Thanks again.
