Hello. I've been reading this forum for quite some time but this is my first post. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.
I have a 1986 300E that is having the same "temp rises at idle in traffic" issues that I have seen posted here. It appears that the previous owner replaced the radiator (it says BEHR and has a date of 04-2004 on it) From the look of the fresh sealant around the thermostat housing, that must have been checked or replaced as well.
I am currently trying to determine if the fan clutch is failing. Using a carrot as recommended by previous posts, it will peel a certain amount from the tip, but putting about 2 pounds of pressure on the carrot stops the fan completely. Is this supposed to happen?
If this shows a faulty clutch, is there a special tool for removing the clutch?
