Hello again all, just after some quick advice from some of you more experienced ladies & gents.

I've found a C220 classic "2002 model. Currently at 120,000 miles. Going for £3400 and wanted some info on whether its a good deal or not.

The car has NO service history but it's from a car dealer who's offering "FREE 2 years warranty"

I've had a quick text car check and it's showed the cars had 6 previous owners and 1 colour change, no record of stolen/lost or damage.

On the one hand I'm a bit put off at the number of owners/colour change and no service history but the fact it's backed up with a warranty makes me want to jump at the chance. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

run away as fast as you can. cars with2-3 owners with history for extra 5-600 quid would be a better bet. 2 year warranty is for mechanical issues. but multiple owners and colour change suggests pos cat c/d repair

I'm not scared of MB with mileage but at 120k the price is high even if the car is genuine otherwise, which it sounds not to be.

A later 03 would be a better bet, even better would be a facelift 04 but the price might be over the £4k.

My present mo mo is anticipated to be around for a good few years, now at 143k miles I travelled close on 400 miles round trip for it. There were many other trips with no result.

BTW an online MOT history check can unearth an iffy past

(look halfway down the page).

What Dealer or Dealership would give you a "Free" 2 year warranty on a 120m...2002 year vehicle. They just do not exist........Not on this Earth........Walk away.

Ok guys you're completely right and I think I was just too excited to see clearly and tried jumping at the chance.

New car found, wanted your opinions:

Mercedes e220 cdi auto. 2002 model. All usual bits like leather/ electric etc etc. Currently on 240,000 miles (pretty high :s)

Asking for £3500

Full service history with "large chunk from mercedes main dealer".

It's extremely far from me, approximately 400 miles +

Planning to view Monday, anything I should look out for in particular?
(I couldn't find a buyers guide just one on rust)

Let me add: the cars history checks reveal clean no accident etc. 4 owners. 2006 mileage registered at 40,000. Which means in 5 years the car has done 200,000 miles (40k miles a year... Wow)

I'm quite tempted with this car, bodywork is apparently immaculate with no dents, chips, scratches etc.

Could be, I use the iPhone so I can't copy paste the link. It's on eBay, it's the silver e220. (there's only 2 for sale right now anyway)

Any input?

a silver e220 cdi is very common, why go 400 miles to look at one? there will be plenty around where you are if you ar using the right sites to look for one...if this is far cheaper than all the others then i'd avoid if its miles away - cheap high milers can be great if local and you can see how they are and scrutinise what's been replaced and how, how they drive, etc... but if miles away i wouldnt bother as there's a fair chance its cheap for a reason and then you've lost a fair bit of budget in time, petrol and wear and tear when you see this for yourself after travellling to see it!

I anticipate that the W203 series will drop fast in price from now on. They have held up well until about a year ago, but a sea-change has started. With the advent of new models, and given MB's perceived poor reputation over the last decade compared to other quality marques, there are plenty about. Watch prices as winter develops - they will be considerably lower than now.

Curb your excitement and wait just a few weeks, and you'll get a bargain.

Just my penn'orth.

d215yq-
Hey thanks for the input, the reason I was specifically interested in that one is it was the facelift model (late 02). Also the bodywork was "immaculate" with no scratches, scrapes, dents, rust. Plus a full service history.

I'm using pistonheads/ eBay and autotrader. That's all that I know of, if you know any please feel free to let me know.

umblecumbuz-
I completely understand what you're saying and it makes perfect sense. I guess waiting a little while it will be quite beneficial. Thanks for your input also.

I've used gumtree before as well, not as easy to search as the other sites but there is plenty on there as its the only free place to advertise now.

400 miles trip is to far. I imagine after that length of journey it would be too easy to accept anything to have made the trip worthwile. As you live in London you shouldn't need to travel that far.

So it's Scotland or close.
My preference is for cars with a southern history (Norfolk(ish) best) a more gentle climate and kinder to the car, it's not just what you see on the surface.

Thanks for all the input. I've found gumtree which seems to have great cars:

http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-...s-automatic-diesel-220-cdi-year-2002/90756378

But the seller is very rude & only speaks basic English with "ye, no, why" hmm.

Was going to pop down and have a look then at the expense if £3, turned out to be a written off cat-D.

Looks nice enough and mileage, if genuine is good, plus high spec.
Are you saying it is a cat D?
Thats not necessarily a problem provided it's been repaired properly. I'd want it properly inspected and details of what the damage was but it's not a definite reason to walk away if the price reflects it. Neither is the intellectual capability of the previous owner. I'd have an AA inspection done though.

Well, I called the guy up selling the cat-D. He was extremely rude so I couldn't be bothered to chase after it.

Found a beautiful black mercedes 2003 C220 cdi 96k on the clock, perfect condition throughout. Full service history, only 2 previous owners.

£4,000.....

I drove it home!
Beautiful car, only concern is I think it needs both front bushes replaced soon as mot shows advisories. But doesn't creek or make noise during drive.
