hi, had a rough evening with my keyfob. it is black with 3 buttons, open, lock & boot with 1 red LED. suddenly stopped working. realised that it could be opened so replaced the batteries from my local MAPLIN that was open till 8pm thank god, but still didnt work. checked out some threads, but still couldnt work out the problem. didnt have anything in the owners manual about re-progamming etc & dreaded a visit to the Merc Dealer in the morning. so i sat in the car, swore a couple of times whilst playing with the key fob, inserting it in & out, pressing the buttons, praying as well!, & after about 20 mins of this, it started to work!!! what a result. so why am i starting this thread? i would like help on 2 matters please...
1. is there a re-progaming sequence that i should know about for next time?
2. how would i have started the car in an emergency? all i have is the slip out metal key that unlocks the drivers door, im totally lost???
please excuse my naivety or lack of merc knowledge, was a bmw man for years before i recently converted! thanks...???

Your Mercedes
Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
You can't start the car without the IR key I'm afraid.

The problem could be a dodgy contact on the PCB in the remote. If you have a spare, start using that. If you don't, buy one until you find the cause.
