Any ideas?

Pulling away with medium power with full left lock on the steering, or close to full left lock, I hear and feel a loud knocking from what feels like the offside engine bay. Feels a bit like a loose exhaust coming loose from it's mountings.

Any guidance? Cheers

If it is like my 124 you should check the steering box is tightly secured to the inner wing.

Turn or take front wheel off and check tightness of those 3 bolts.

OR of course it could be any of the joints in the various linkages.

More info: when travelling at 50mph on a sweeping left bend I get a knocking sound from the offside engine bay, feels related to steering somehow. Definitely don't get this noise on right hand bends.

I'll check the engine mounts later tonight, thanks kth286 & colechelle

Another memeber ,Whitenemessis had a similar problem acouple of days ago. Give us more info.

whitenemesis still has this problem! :(

At all speeds, turning left or right but strangely not in the same direction in sucsession!?

It's definately more noticable now and with the window down there's a "clunk - clunk" from up front.

MB MIlton Keynes had a quick look but found nothing obvious, suggested a worn steering coupling. In their opinion it is still safe to drive!

It goes into my local dealer this Thursday.

I'll report back the findings........

Update

Took my car to the dealers on Thursday, after a drive round the carpark the tech diagnoses torque control arm bushes, stock items so straight into the workshop. 1hr later was told the bushes looked fine, it's the strut upper mountings that have failed Parts ordered.

Back to dealer this morning, left the car for 4hrs. Whent to collect the car and was told strut mounts replaced, torque control arm bushes replaced, knocking still there.........

While the sound is a "knock" it is also has a "creak" element. I still think it is more to do with the steering gear in some way.
