Below 20/25 mph the speedo doesn't seem to be alive! As you accelerate it springs into life and is perfectly fine at speeds over 25 mph.

Any ideas ... other than floor it everywhere! Oh, and replace the entire speedo assembly at £500!!!

Thanks,

Tim

Hi Tim,there was a problem on the speedo head where the stop pin becomes sticky, and the needle sticks to it. cleaning the pin with a little lighter fuel should solve it,or slipping a piece of sleeving over it.

Ah ... the mystical Malcolm of which they speak! :D

Thanks Malcolm ... sounds a bit cheaper than the £500 Hughes quoted for a fix! However, I bet that removing the cluster is a right pig?! I guess that this is the only way of accessing the pin?

Thanks again!

I've had the cluster out twice

in my SL and twice in my w124. I'm getting pretty good at it by now, if you want ablow by blow, I think I posted one somewhere a while ago. Search on instrument panel removal and see what pops out.

Do you have the airbag option. That makes it abit trickier.

No airbag thank goodness! I'll search for your cluster removal description ... I'm away for a few days then I'll get stuck in!
