Hi all,

I'm new here, so take it easy if I have posted this in the wrong place! :?

I have just won myself a beautiful 89 300SL, it came at a very reasonable price because of a rusty / rotten patch on the front of the bulkhead. The rest of the car is completely solid.

Reading through some of the previous posts, I'm going to guess that it has suffered with a blocked water drain hole somewhere by the heater!!??

My questions are:

1) Is there a replacement panel available for this area?
2) If so where do I get one from and how much?
3) Has anyone else fixed or had the same area fixed, to the extent that
the rotten bit is cut away and a new bit welded in?

Or will I be tackling this problem on my own with some new sheet steel and a mallet.:D (Camera in hand and lots of progress posts)

Any info would be very welcome.

The hardest thing is the dismantling both sides of this panel so that nothing burns in the welding process. that is a common place to have rust on a 107

Is it on the drivers side

It appears (from memory) right in the middle of the bulkhead, but it could be slightly off to the drivers side I suppose.

I had planned on removing the dashboard anyway, so I can make sure that I don't end up with a pile of smouldering embers rather than an SL.

Any idea on a replacement panel?

I spoke to Milton Keynes MB today, who advised me that I can buy a complete bulkhead for £562.00, but thats a bit excessive, considering the whole car only cost me a grand.
