Has anyone else got a problem with the fuel, temperature and oil pressure gauges intermittently flicking around at random?
Guesses would be voltage regulator or earthing problem - but as I've been an owner for only 7 days I've no idea where to check.
The car has done 400 miles in the last 2 years which could be a pointer.

My 350SL temp guage flickers and my rev counter seems to register double what the engine is doing.
Sorry cant help Rob.

Firstly I would give all of the fuses and contacts in your fuse box a good clean with emery cloth.

If that does not cure it, I would suspect the Over Voltage Protection relay which will be @ £60 to purchase.

Update - I'm pretty sure its an earthing problem now. Driving at night, the dash light in the left hand dial (only) is dimming and the whole of the left hand dial goes mad when you put the brakes on.
I guess I'll take it out and have a look.

I would check the stoplight bulbs to make sure they are the correct one had a problem with a car before someone had put an indicator bulb in instead of a stop & tail bulb when I put my foot on the brake it brought on the dash lights along with all the sidelights. Worth checking

OK now I know it's just a bad connection. Get this - when the car is cold you can "switch" between bonkers mode and normal mode by pressing on the top left side of the left hand dial dash top! When it is warm the expansion must do this for me because its fine. Must take it to bits and have a look. But now I've had the car for a few weeks I'm getting a bit more relaxed about the temperature gauge going off the scale now and then!
