R129 1992 newby owner

I have a shared ownership R129, never had a Merc before so I may need a lot of advice. I am located in Spain and spares are difficult to obtain (hopefully wont need any)

My first problem is I am changing all of the sensors, as a precaution. I cannot locate the Crankshaft position sensor, I can find the cable connection and i follow that until it dissapears into a tube then that goes through the fire wall and I cannot see where it goes (should be to the sensor) any body able to enlighten me as to the location of the sensor... many thanks in advance.

Hi, on my 98 the cps is at the back of the engine. If looking from the front, rad at your knees it is on the rhs at about 2:30 to 3 o’clock below the air intake..

Never heard of a crank position sensor failure on a pre M112/M113 engined SL.

Incidentally don't use anything other than original or the original OEM sensors.

Thank you for the welcome! I have been informed that crankshaft position sensor could be above the starter motor! any body able to verify this?
