Odd specialist if they didn't know about the dizzy caps.

Apparently the actuator threw an error up so they started there. My understanding is that the faults don't get wiped and it could have been there for years.

Agree though, reading this thread and others, sounds like they should have started with caps or CPS.

Expensive mistake to make. Car is being towed elsewhere later today.

Let us know how you get on please! I find carl at w140.co.uk good on spares for the R129 and he is breaking a few R129's at the moment.

Sounds like you really need to get the car into a recommended MB indie for fault root-cause, a few have advised locations already...by using non approved garages, they will change parts adhoc with you funding the bill! (actually that's what stealers do as well:shock:)

Absolute rubbish! Where's this myth come from?

Go to Merc - my dealer at any rate - and they'll replace what they think it is (I'm not sure if they keep a stock of these partsd somewhere) and if it fixes it they then replace it properly. If it doesn't fix it then you don't pay for it. Simple as that.

I had an R230 and had enough problems with electrical parts such as SAMs failing to have experienced this; I wasn't up for replacing little black boxes at £1000 a try if it *might* be the problem.

Too many people trot out this anti-"stealer" line: what's your beef with them? I've never had an issue with MB, they've consistently matched indie prices when asked, and when push comes to shove they have got the best backup and parts they can swap out and try (Not putting down many of the skilled independent guys out there, some of who take the time and the effort to help people on here).

CPS not a common failure on this engine.
Suspect the wiring loom fault though, as well as those distributors...

Right, this just gets better.

The old actuator is now back on the car, put back on by the 'merc specialist'.

However, I've just been informed that the car will now not run as they have re-set 'something', and the actuator that is back on the car cannot read whatever it reads and the 'mixtures' aren't right.

WTF does that all mean?

It sounds to me like they've made the situation a lot worse and are going to charge me for it all.

Anyone have any clues as to what they are talking about. Their resolution was "buy another actuator". The car ran when I gave it to them?
