R129 acceleration

Hi,
I've a 1999 SL320 which has a problem. It drives OK until I try and accelerate hard (foot to the floor) The engine starts to misfire and and the car will not pick up any speed. If I accelerate gently there's no problem. It's as if the engine is being flooded. Can anyone give me any idea what the problem might be. Many thanks!

Air flow meter as a guess. Buy a bosch one from ebay but only bosch others dont work.

It does sound like mixture control, I second the diagnosis of the air flow meter.

I too had that problem with my SL320 during the summer. Took the car to a specialist and low and behold it was the air mass sensor. The car ran unbelieviably better with this fitted.
