For those who may have read previous posts, I suspected my electronic throttle actuator as being the fault with my ASR kicking in and reducing power etc. Anyway, I have had the rebuilt unit refitted and it all seems good. Too much snow to take it out, but throttle response much crisper, no ASR light so looking good.
Anyone interested take a look at this site - this is the chap who rebuilt it for me. He is in the US but knows what he is doing and had to rebuild the potentiometer in the unit, as well as replace the degraded wiring.

Chaps name is Victor if anyone else is suffering from a duff ETA/ASR issue. Bear in mind fault codes as read by Benz dealer did not identify this as the problem - but a stack of other things, some of which had been expensively replaced previously in an attempt to fix it.
Anyway, huge thanks to Victor as without his help my SL was effectively a dud.
