I bought my W124 (no, wait - I'll get to the R129 thing in a sec) last year and have been slowly putting it in perfect working order. All that remains now is to re-fit the wiring harness (thank you to Simon at Si-Leck for repairing it. Biodegradable insulation: what were they thinking??), and getting it fully serviced at John Haynes in Worthing.

Anyway, I love the car but have started hankering after an R129, which is probably more my style - and much of it is the same car anyway. So I'm thinking a fairly early one, before it went all blobby but there's a whole raft of uplifts and tweaks to watch for through its lifetime. So - as I usually do before I buy a car - I'm looking for a book that covers not just the buying side of things but also the history of the model.

1. Does anyone have a recommendation, given that there's quite a few out there?
2. Long shot: anyone want to swap their R129 for a sorted W124 Coupe?

I think there is a Mercedes Enthusiast SL book still available. It's really just an expensive magazine, but it gives the history
