Hi, i wonder if anyone has or knows where i can obtain the two sliding louvre ashtray and stow box covers for my sl320, the colour trim is mushroom. I find the quality of mercedes build is generally good but these little black handles that are attached to the covers are rather flimsy, they just shattered into pieces. maybe even black ones would do in place of mushroom colour. thanks.

I think what you are finding may be more common than we think.

I have a 1994 129 and have noticed that the plastics are brittle generally. I have had a slight slit on one of the parts you mentioned - not helped by the fact that the lids don't slide open as readily as you would hope - and the hinges on the door storage pockets have each fractured. The trim surrounding the sun visor mounts also cracked - in the same place on both sides.

I wonder if these are poor plastics, or just typical of any plastic of that age?

There are 2 possible routes - buy from a car being broken (but the part you are buying will be the same age as the part you are replacing) or buy via a dealership. When you give the dealer the VIN of your car the system will recognize it immediately and you can be sure of the correct part in the correct colour. I find that parts are delivered in 48 hours and are not furiously expensive.

You could certainly spend a lot more in time and fuel tracking down the bits you want.

Hi Alex, Yes they are brittle, i will check with the dealer. I have no other parts that are defective so to get some new ones wouldn't be a great distress. Thankyou.

That is fine, and sold you have to remove it all to fit as they go in from the bottom

Yes radio out, climate out, screws in pocket out, allowing access to two screws for back part with screws in back console to lift off and then screws to lift ashtray and stow box out then slide in from bottom. is this correct Malc?
