My 97 SL320's electric windows have recently become juddery and squeaky. Even worse, they intermittently fail to do the automatic "open half an inch/close" when you open/close the door (on both doors).
This leaves me having to open and close the door repeatedly until it does work.

The problem seemed to get worse when I put the hard top on a few weeks ago.

Is this a door alignment problem, something else/worse, or just a need for a bit of appropriate lubrication ?

Any advise would be much appreciated.
Thanks

sl 129 windows

sounds like the windows have lost there posisition you need to normalize them. sit in car with ignition on press down button ( 1st stage only) till window is allthe way down then continue to hold for 5 seconds then press to second stage (one touch) without releasing button, then press up (first stage only) till window at top hold for 5 seconds then complete second stage then repeat for other window. if one touch works window is normalized. roof will not work if windows are not normalised.

juddering yes lubricate

Windows - delaership haven't a clue

Further to my original post - :

" My 97 SL320's electric windows intermittently fail to do the automatic "open half an inch/close" when you open/close the door (on both doors).
This leaves me having to open and close the door repeatedly until it does work. "

The dealership have had the car in twice and have completely failed to solve the problem.
All they have done is "reset" the windows - presumably what piestore described.
Anybody have any experience with this problem and how to fix it ?
Does it need a new motor or something ?

Hi

Next step would be to remove door pads. lubricate all mechanical parts with grease and all rubber parts with silicone and normalize windows
