R129 grill colour?

Is there a specific colour name given to the grill on a SL500 (1998) - it’s in need of restoration and was hoping if the colour of it had a name?

The grill is anodised aluminium.
My 91 SL has a code 702 smoke silver. I believe there may be other chrome finished grills. I Have searched for a solution to re-anodise but looks tricky. Paint may be the solution.

Thank you - was code 702 the original colour or did you have the grill painted later on in its life?

I believe 702 is an original “smoke silver” MB colour. However this may or may not be the code used for the anodise process. I recently bought a spray tin and tested it on a piece of steel, then lacquered and polished. It is a very close match. I find myself with 3 choices:
1) buy new grill at around £475 from dealer
2) try find a company willing to reAnodise and match colour (not found one yet - tried electroplaters who won’t touch it)
4) reAnodise at home- cannot see any colours to match
3) try home painting (yet to be done but favour d lowest cost option)

My plan is to:
a) remove each slat (single rivet)
b) buff to remove pitting
c) spray etch primer
d) spray 2 coats 702 paint
e) spray 2 coats lacquer
f) hand polish (tried dremmel on test piece which is too rough and removes paint)

It would be good to hear if others have done this!

That's not the one. The proper one has 7 fins.

Thank you but I want to keep the cars original grill and restore it to what it looked like in 1998 ie 7 fin and smoke grey ish in colour?

The 129 parts are expensive but you rarely need any.....
