When I bought my R129 I lifted the panoramic roof on and off with the vender. It is very very heavy. I am no light weight but because of the awkward angle you have to hold your arms, i.e. outstretched, to clear the back of the car it is extremely awkward. You run severe danger of damaging the back end of the car and in fact have had to get several scratches and dents removed because the previous owner had removed it with the help of his fairly petite wife. A winch is by far the safer and less risky option, unless of course you have access to two people built like Mike Tyson.

Well, MB Milton Keynes dealership parts dept fished up the figure of 118.5 kg (261 lb) for me from their system. That seems very heavy indeed, and too much for two people to handle. Today I test drove a 500 with the panoramic roof fixed; the vendor said that it was manageable by two people, one of them being his wife. Perhaps that MB weight includes the substantial packaging/crating for shipment.

I reckon that figure is for the roof alone. See my and Malcolm's post above.

There must be a lot of long suffering wifes/girlfriends out there. If I had one I wouldn't dream of asking her lift such a weight.

The weight of the roof was one of the major deciding factors in me changing to what I have now.

Phew, no more weightlifting.

Should have been TV, that was a fault of the printers

Yeh, maybe I should've.

Actually, getting rid of it made sure I had a great case for changing the car.

A 36" Mike is too much, and so is a flat screen tubed 32", the glass is 1" thick all over the face
