R129 seat only moves forward

Hi My R129 320 failed its MOT as the seat will only move forwards when controlled by the door switch. if i push the back button there is another motor in the back rest that starts moving so i took the belt off that.

I've cleaned the door switch with contact cleaner and also swopped over the switch from the passenger door but it still doesn't function correctly

Any suggestions

Broken wire in door harness near hinge maybe...
Does it move on the memory buttons?

hi thanks there are no memory buttons on the switch. when the back button is moved the motor in the back rest operates instead

I have never seen a 129 without memory seats!

There’s quite a few about without, mostly 320’s or less. Not sure if I’ve seen a 500 without though..

security of drivers seat plus fore and aft movement are part of the MOT test, as is security of passenger seat.

My 1990 300 SL has no memory seats. To replace the switch is expensive.

Just a thought but it is possible to put the connectors on the door switch on the wrong terminals.
