The most common fault is the K38 starter lock out relay,,they get poor connections it is behind the radio and heater control

Cheers television.

How do I get to it and what does one look like?

Really annoying. Only just changed the crank sensor because of start problems. But at least the engine turned then!

The K38 relay was an addition to incorporate the starter in the alarm circuit.

You can double check by measuring the voltage on the small wire on the starter when you turn the key,if no voltage the the relay is the next in line,, Behind the radio on the bulk head.

I take it that the alarm is functioning correctly

Hi

Sorry for delay.

Yes the alarm is functioning correctly.

I've still not been able to get to it or see where/what it is.

Might be better getting someone else to look at this for me.

Only by pulling out the radio and heater control box will you see it.

The output from the alarm box goes to this K38 starter lock out relay,, this is something that was added. Once you have found it, it is easy to check with a meter.

Is the car a 129063 or 129064

The other thing to try, before looking for the K38, is to check if the car starts with the gear lever in neutral. Sometimes, the contacts in the neutral safety switch can become corroded - especially if the condensate from the air conditioning drips onto it, like some W124s!

Also, check all your fuses, give them all a twist to make sure they have good connections.

Could well be the ignition switch, quite common on 129s, although more so on earlier ones.

Yes correct,, the wire from the ignition switch goes to the K38

A simple volt meter check would confirm this
