Can anyone tell me where i can get the build list for my 98 SL500 r129 WDB1290682F175991 as i'm trying to buy some new front discs and being told the listed ones are 300mm diameter. The ones on there are 330mm diameter approx with Brembo calipers. so i'm trying to work out if this was factory upgrade or changed later in its life.

So do you think you had the Brembo brakes from new? Hopefully one of the after market people do them, some of the decent ones like MTEC or even Brembo.

300mm were fitted to early (pre facelift?) cars.
330mm were fitted to later cars. A 98 car will use 330mm.

My own 93 car uses 300mm.

its not unusual as models change over , a car built late in the year , say , october time can have next years upgrades on it , alot of the time its just best to be armed with the disc measurements , saves alot of hassle

Well this is proving harder than i ever expected! I wanted to go for coated disc's, drilled or grooved, but there does not seem to be anybody in Uk or beyond offering anything, apart from Mtec brakes, which offers these, https://www.mtecbrakes.com/mtec1271.html MTEC1271 coated, dimpled, drilled, grooved, which ever you prefer, but they are out of stock till November 22 :( It looks like Brembo do a coated / drilled version, but their website keeps saying its not compatible with the car reg i put in. Not sure weather to risk it?

If the Brembo discs are the correct diameter, they will fit. Just check they are at least 32mm thick. The 26mm thick ones are for the rear.
It's not uncommon for distributors to wrongly state certain discs wont fit a car when info from forums etc clearly prove otherwise.
If by small chance they didn't fit, its only the return postage of around £15 you'd have to pay.

Not coated but these would fit. Correct diameter and thickness.

I feel that it is pointless to plug registration numbers into vendor websites. Far more reliable to get the genuine MB part number from an EPC and cross-refer that to aftermarket parts, if one does not wish to use MB parts.

My 2c worth.

Good luck.

This is the Part# from the EPC for 330mm discs.

A 12 942 123 12

ebay have the same Part# and these check out as 330mm dia discs.

Thanks for all the info. Yes all the "put your reg in" websites, say the 300mm disc is right for my car, which its not, so as you say, not very reliable. I will use the links above. thanks
