Hi all, I'm finally looking to change the fake AMG 18'' alloys that came with my SL500 with cheap tyres. I'm trying to make my mind up between AMG I (5 spoke), AMG III (thinner 5 spoke) & 19'' AMG I wheels. Is there a site that shows your make of car that you can change the wheels cos this is driving me mad to choose which ones to put on. Can anyone suggest a good company to purchase these wheels (originals) and also does anyone have any preference on tyre make (Michlin, Dunlop SP 01, Conti etc). Any info would be good, thanks

There used to be sites where you could try different wheels on the cars, but they sem to have all gone now.

I have a set of 230 SL AMG wheels, but they use 14mm wheel bolts and special cone adapters would be needed

Hi Malcolm, thanks for your message & pic. I've been on so many forums about different tyre makes and alloy wheel types and everyone has good and bad experiences with all types and am finding it difficult to know which path to go down!! Is it worth going to my local MB dealer who looks after my car for their advice or is that a complete waste of time

I do not think that you will find any MB dealer that knows what a 129 is, even it they do service your car,,I have pictures of 129s with 4 different wheels,,maybe I can scan them

Given the choice would you fit 18'' or 19'', what are the advantages of larger wheels if any

Mainly appearance, the first car had 16" wheels,with17" as an option. 08-98 the 17" where standard with an18" option, 2001 the 18" were standard with a 19" option

The 17" will give you the best ride, as it has a decent sidewall

I used to look at all of the adds for the choice of wheels

Do be careful if you get the diamond cut lacquered wheels , it does not last long, They look good in the chrome paint as when refurbished.
Lovely cars the 129 I loved mine

now I'm thinking going down the 17'' route - makes sense in a way as I am after a better ride but still want something that looks good but not over the top. I quite like the Homan & Avior wheels. At least all 4 wheels are the same size so can swap backs with fronts if need be. Thats the only thing I don't like with the bigger 18/19'' wheels is the size difference

Both of the wheels that you mention only come with 14mm fixing bolt,so you would need adaptors

These are the homan on a 129 my old carhttp://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/attachment.php?attachmentid=978&d=1135278338

This American site offers a 'see the wheel on your car' facility. I think they only include one AMG wheel, but you might find some others similar?
