!6" 225/55 stayed until 08 98,then 17" 245 /45 were standard until 2000 where 18" were standard. the last special editions came with 19"

The ET is around 33 double check first

Many thanks for the rapid responce Malcome, I'm looking at a set of 8.5J 17" with a 35 offset, booted with Michelin pilots 255 x 45. they are from a SL350 on an 05 plate. I am still trying to get the pcd and the bolt dia size from the seller, just to be sure.
Great forum site, glad to have joined, I will use it a lot as I'm bringing my "baby" out for the summer at the end of the month.
Cheers
John

Again, many thanks for the info. I have access to a good machine shop, so if I win the bid, I will follow you advice and have a new set of bolts machined to M12.
Cheers again

Thats what I did, by removing 90% of the 14mm thread, and then that leaves the perfect size shank for threading, I used a Die rather than screw cutting.

When the bolt is through the hole in the wheel you need 20mm sticking out of the rear when its all the way through. I had to take the rear ones down to 18mm sticking through otherwise they just touched the brakes when cornering making a ticking sound.'
MB charge £1.80 each for the bolts where as better chrome bolt from wheel shops only cost me 80p

Hope this helps

Thanks for the bolt info, I will pass the dims on to my machine shop.
I got out bid on the wheels I was bidding on, but with the knowledge gained I can now with confidence bid on other similar sets as well as standard R129 wheels. Just hope I find some before the end of the month or I will have to re-boot my original pepper-pots even though they are kerbed and tatty.
Safe Driving :)

Hi, I have a set of 7 spoke wheels like in the pic with 255 45 17 tyres on. I have a sl320 1996 and i haven't put them on yet with not knowing if i need spacers and/or 14mm ball seat with the 12 thread diameter. If i buy the bolts from rad usa ...is this all i need with 2mm taken off the back studs....Your car looks great in the pic Television and it has spurred me on to fit mine..ta..Steve.

Hi Television , my wheels are part number A230 401 09 02, Are these the ones that are ok for me to mount with only using bolt pack 4 from direct ? ...many thanks..Steve. It does seem to me that they will contact the shock absorber rubber boot though.

Hi, i have mounted my 230 wheels on my sl 320 and checked that the rear wheels didn't catch onto the ebrakes while they were up off the ground as you said television, i have driven it slowly around the block and it appears there is a squeek coming from the back when i corner, could this be the lugs moving against the brakes. i have taken each bolt out to have a look to see if it has been marked but it seems they haven't any apparent marks...maybe i should grind a touch off the bolts to see if it happens again...what do think?...my thanks Steve.

If the bolts were too long you would get a ticking noise as they catch, I cannot think why they should squeak
