R230 - Alarm signal horn communication

I have recently had my 2003 SL500 hooked up to STAR. Amongst other things, it has identified a current and stored fault which is 'Fault Code B1341 - Fault in communication with component H3 (alarm signal horn)'.

Can anyone please throw light on how I may get this rectified whilst avoiding the MB dealer costs?

I was also told that this was a potential reason why my auxilliary battery drains when the car is not driven for a couple of weeks. Is this likely?

Yup, the alarm horn dies and throws up a DTC. From memory it's a wheelarch liner off job to get to it.

It was suggested that due to its location the connectors and wiring may become corroded and that this needs checking out before replacing the sounder. Any suggestions on how I might test whether the sounder is knackered?
