I'm wondering if anyone has knowledge of the internal parts of this mechanism, why I ask ??

Well mine is still playing up but in a strange way I think. I've removed it a few times now and glued up the balls and edges that we all know about. I have say to I've never been able to see any cracking on the best closest examinations but none the less glued up all the same. And on reinstallation it works fine for a few days. The last time it stood in the garage for two weeks and was working on friday when I took the car out. It worked fine all weekend then I decided I must have fixed it at last.... famous last words !! So I fitted the boot liner back and all the other fixings. Sure enough its stopped working again. It pops open OK but won't pull down. The PSE pump has not required resetting so I'm wondering its a leak at all. Reason being I've often had the Red warning about boot not closed when in fact it was and this was before it started playing up. Today when it stopped working the same thing happened, I managed to slam the boot shut but all the way home the Red boot not closed warning was bonging away ! So I start to wonder if the problem is in the switch within the mechanisim, if its failing then maybe on closing the boot the PSE pump doesn't run, so not pulling down ??? Any thoughts on this ??

In true MB tradition problems come in two's and threes. Having closed the boot by slamming it shut today, I decided to at least drop the roof and enjoy the sunshine..... Ha no !! The blasted roof separator warning came up, even though it was in the down postions, so can't use the roof either. I'm hoping that's a switch.....

Grrrr !!!

Maybe slamming boot to shut disslodged switch these cars are great when working but have quite complex electrics/electronics. You just have to keep at it.

By slamming it the connector may have popped off the latch mechanism.

At the bottom where the link to the key is check the pivot for the mechanical release arm. They can break meaning you can't look the boot properly.

I've blown my own theory I think.... I cycled the fuse for the PSE pump just to prove myself and bugger me the damn boot mech starts pulling down again ! So it's an air leak......right ?!?!?!

Smart + others :)
Read the fault on star, if it says leak in boot circuit or something like that, check lines etc but also could be internal in diaphragm. We have also had pumps fail in this way, inter rant boot closure and only works with a reset.

Trouble is a "Star" fault reading in going to cost me £+.++ and finding a local who can do it. Yes before everyone asks, I do have an Indy nearish in Hereford but I've lost faith (and a lot of money) recently this last year.
