Hi all
Been trying to set the clock on my 2002 SL500 (R230)

I navigate ok to the correct screen however when I start to change the date and time it appears to almost time out and the shows a satellite symbol and greys out the date and time settings

I seem to remember the clock is set via satellite however its showing wrong time and date so assume there must be a manual override ??

No override.
It's down to a programming glitch in the head unit where it failed to correctly interpret the time signal from the GPS information.
It's down to something called the GPS epoch which is broadly similar to the Y2M glitch that affected computers.

Sweet FA you can do about it.

If you look you'll see the dates is miles out too.

There's a long thread about GPS time and epoch somewhere on here.

We've been really lucky with all our r230's, the clocks set themselves if the battery has been disconnected or when summertime comes :D

The time in my 2004 R230 is always correct, I haven't looked at the date so will check tomorrow.

Didn't know that! They don't look different.
They're very different. The early ones have a wooden surround all the way around the head unit and a smaller screen. In 2004 they changed to a bigger screen.

Mines an early 2004 with the smaller screen, the larger screens came in later in 2004. I knew about the bigger screen change, in the UK this came along with the 54 reg cars.

Yeah I know it's not that bad - in fact in some ways it's significantly ahead of here.
I haven't been back in over 10 years now. MrsLK wants to go but I can't be bothered with the flights and jet lag.

I’d recommend sailing to avoid the jet lag, it does take awhile though...

(It took me a month at 10.5 knots to get from Cape Town to Port Kembla in NSW...)

We go back every 5 years Alistair, Business Class so we get plenty of sleep in the beds.
We are back again next Easter for 8 weeks. Auckland is the only place in NZ.......Isn't it???

.................................it does take awhile though...

A bit like driving an SLK280...........:p
