The lens on my SL got broken somehow so I bought a genuine one from Mercedes Grimsby off ebay. I couldn't find any fitting guide on the net so followed instructions off the SLK forum for the same mirror.
This involved removing the glass, the motor and the outer case that holds the indicator. All easily done with care. Anyway there I was with the outer case in my hand only to find that the lens on this age model (2003) is a push fit nto the case and could have been removed without and dismantling at all. I suspect later models are held in with a screw as well as the clip but if so then only the mirror glass needs to be remove to access it. The first picture shows the difference between old and new (I had already removed the clip from the slot). The second picture is where the screw would be behind the mirror. The wiring connector is fixed into the mirror head itself and so the unit pushes on to it.
Hope this helps someone in future.
