I was messing around with the CAN bus in the passenger side of my car last night, and started the car without fully connecting everything (the brown/black-brown cable that I think connects all the CAN buses) together.

So yo my shock, turning the ignition off, and pulling the key out did nothing to turn anything off! A quick browse on the internet and manual turned up nothing on how to turn the car off in an event like this.

I guess my question how do I turn the car off if the ignition key fails to do so? I think I read there's a fuse to a fuel pump somewhere, but maybe there is a better way?

You could pull the fuel pump fuse from the rear box behind the seat.

You could lift the air cleaner off and hold and use a cloth over your hand and place it over the MAF, at rear of engine.

You could stuff something up both exhaust pipes :D

How did you turn it off ? Is it still running

I had to splice the CAN wires together and hold the ends in the Bus connector, and everything cut off when I held them there, as the key was out. Felt like I was 8 years old, breaking all my toys again.

Went to Merc today and picked up new connectors, turns out BMW use them aswell. Merc only had the pins in stock the housing needed to be ordered in. From the mod4cars website the Part numbers are as follows:

Plastic cap small
MB - 0305452828
BMW - 61136925634 (BMW says it has been replaced by 61132360043)

Female Crimp Pin
MB - 0085455526
BMW - 61130005197

Malcom, yea fuel pump fuse was what I was thinking of, do you know which one it is? My wiring diagram unreadable as it somehow got wet in the boot :-/

It is the blue/white wire for the fuel pump relay, you can see the fuse where this goes to

Yes I did, snapped one of the tabs, but it came off. I problem was the CAN cable going into the module female part used clips to keep it in place, so while I was panicking I kept pulling on the wiring which eventually snapped the pins in half in the housing. I stuffed the ends of the wire into the Bus connection to switch off, as it reactivated the dash.

It was only in the morning did I realise that I needed the press down on the female part of the module to be able to release the pins. The module part looks like the "Plastic cap large" in the picture above.
