I've got a bit of a wobble on the rear on my R230 / Non ABC model ....someone used the word "shimmering" ..... I am suspecting it is some sort of worn bush ....I remember back in the 80's getting the same feeling from worn void bushes on my Ford cortina .......so Big question Is .....are they a DIY job to replace? ....I've seen clips on youtube but it has the subframe off the car to do it is that how it's done? ......the MOT is due in Oct so no doubt this is a failure? Is it an expensive job to get it done in an Indy?

If you replace bushes you should have the rear suspension realigned afterwards. There are camber and toe in adjustments for the rear suspension and if you disturb them they will need resetting.

Someone did recommend wheels in motion? To sort out the camber / possibly fitting adjusting bolts at £30 each inc the adjusting which i don't mind doing but I need to sort the rubbers out first or maybe they might replace the rubbers aswell? ....might give them a call .....my car has been like it ever since I got it,I only use it as a weekend car and would like to get it sorted asap really .....

Yes WIM are the go to guys for alignment. Not sure if they would take on bush replacement as well but give them a call see what they say.

Are you talking about replacing rear subframe bushes or rear suspension arm bushes? My posts refer to rear arm bushes and that refers to rear subframe bushes.
I think the sub frame bushes might be at fault ( common fault from what I can make out ) I Might aswell change them all while I am there ....I will buy new arms complete with bushes ...I am currently searching to find the sub frame removal tool

Resurrecting this thread as I have a similar issue. Under acceleration the rear end of my SL 500 R230 becomes unstable, especially when coming out of junction. Almost as if it is rear end steering. I had a good look around with the car on a lift and could see nothing untoward or find any movement in any bushes. I took the car for MOT thinking it might show up but it passed with no advisories. I'm thinking the front (oil filled) rear sub frame bushes may be at fault. Does anyone have any thoughts, part numbers or links to the correct bushes and possibly the removal tools. The mileage is on 69200.
