I've had this problem a few times now and my local Indy has reset things and cleaned/checked all the contacts. After a week or so it reoccurs and the latest time it came back on after only a few days (when I went over a speed bump - coincidence?).

The Indy now thinks its the actual passenger seatbelt mechanism itself needing replacement.

Anyone else had this and can confirm deny?

Thanks!

Does the SRS lamp once lit stay on, if it does not then it could be the seat belt micro switch

Was about to move this to the electrics section.

It stays on and is only cleared when the Indy resets it. Still on 3 weeks later.

Then more seat occupancy sensors and the one that always fails is the connection to the passenger seat, I would remove the multiplug and spray the contacts with a non drying switch cleaner

new member with a similar problem

Hi all! First posting from a new member.....
My 2005 C180K Coupe has a similar problem. The SRS light only comes on when I am alone in the car. With a passenger on board the check light goes off, everything is normal and a "no malfunction" message appears. As soon as they get out the SRS comes back on. My local garage say it is the passenger seat sensor pad (costly repair?) but this seems strange because when a passenger is in the car everything is perfect. Any ideas? I am a newcomer to modern MB's, and this forum, but having come from a Lexus camp I am starting to think that the MB marque has deteriorated in quality in recent years. Incidentally, can anybody recommend a good indie MB specialist mechanic in Cheshire?

I do not think the pad, if it was the pad the lamp would I think stay on all the time once triggered. Once again the connector under the seat is a known problem. does it do it before they have belted up as most faults that come and go without leaving the lamp on all the time are seat belt problems

Thanks for your response. The SRS light goes out as soon as a passenger sits on the seat and before they have buckled up. The warning light stays off when their seatbelt is fastened and everything is fine until they get out of the car....... then it comes on! There are 3 connectors under the seat and the wires to these seem OK although there is very little slack and the wires seem very tight. I will have another look in this area. Thanks.

I would think that this could be tested with an ohmmeter there must be 1 common and it switches from occupied to unoccupied. There cannot be anymore to it
