Does anyone have any info / documents regarding the removal of a rear quarter window on an SL500 (R230)?
Final part of window closure not working, there seems to be quite a bit of play in the passenger side rear quarter window, I've tried resetting the windows etc.., but it still won't go all the way up, and consequently the final 'pop up' on the main window wont happen either.
I'd like to take the window out and have a look. The whole interior is stripped out at the moment, so access is easy from the inside of the car.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Cheers

If you do not have the door trim on, the lock cannot operate the window to the last fully closed.

You can prove the point by pressing in the lock with the door open, and the windows should pop up that last bit.

Hi Malcolm, thanks for that, I did put the door cards back on to try the windows, and the drivers side works fine, but if you grab the rear quarter window, there seems to be a lot of play in it, made me think there was an issue with the regulator.
The car is a project I bought with massive water ingress issues and numerous problems/faults (hence the interior strip out!) and I am only just starting to scratch the surface with it all.
Just thinking about it, is it possible the door switch isn't working?? i.e. not seeing that the door is closed?
I've solved some of the water ingress issues, but still getting a massive amount of condensation inside the car, I was wondering if the drain holes under the rear quarter window may be blocked .... another reason to remove the window and have a look. I will do the C Pillar sealing again, as I did with my previous SL, once I get as far as getting the roof working!
Actually had a productive day on it today though, SBC fully flushed, tested and working! Gotta love a dry, warm(ish) November day!
Cheers

To get the glass out is a big job, all the rear shelf has to come out, and much more. There is no drain at all on the rear window.

If the drivers door windows closes, then the switch is OK.

The heater box drain is the worst for water in the car, have you done the mod to the drain pipe cutting off the ears

Yes, first job I looked at! The carpets were absolutely sodden underneath, I came to realise that sound deadening foam on the underside of the carpet is just about impossible to dry out in situ, so I've had to do a surgical removal of the carpet on both sides of the tub - even with the carpets out of the car, it took about 3 weeks to get the foam fully dry!!
Did the mod for the heater box and cleared out the years worth of gunk/leaves/dead cats from the other drain points around the windscreen area too. Had to do a massive amount of work on virtually ALL the electrical connectors in the car - they were all corroded and green. Ended up replacing the main fusebox and have today coded the new Driver's side SAM, seems to have cured most of the electrical gremlins that were there before. Passenger SAM seems to be OK, but surprisingly, the rear SAM had blown - so I hear, these don't go often, but this one was definitely knackered - you could see the burned/blown components on the PCB!
To clarify, it is only the rear quarter window I want to remove, not the rear screen - is this still a massive job?
I'll have a bit more of a play with the windows when I get a bit more time - ran out of daylight today!
Thanks for your replies.
Cheers

I have lost my USB with all this info on it,,, I will, print it off for you shortly, yes getting to that window is not easy.

You are doing well, just ask on anything, I know them well having had to pull mine apart as wiring faults from new. I have had mine 10 years now.

There is a rubber/plastic catch below the rear side windows, these do block up, I had one full up to the brim...bit of a pig from memory..........

Thanks guys, and thank you again Malcolm, that would be great if you can find out any info for me.
Really enjoying all the problems to be honest - you end up learning a lot when you get a real pig of a car, but I knew I was buying into that when I took it on.
I have a suspicion the drain holes below the rear quarter window might be blocked, as I have still been getting massive amounts of condensation in the car, even though I had taped up the c Pillar and back window seals to prevent any water getting in there - there must be another source for it to be as bad as it's been. Saw a video on YouTube where a guy was blowing them out with an airline, but no info on there about how to get the window out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HS4lis_zJrg
The champagne moment will be when I manage to get the roof down for the first time! It didn't even have a PSE pump when I bought it (had blown 2 for the last owner, making him give up on it!) Checking for air/vacuum leaks will be one of the next jobs.
Cheers

Cheers for the pics Malcolm, that's interesting - looks like the only fixings are from the top! I'll see if I can get at it with the roof up, if not, it'll have to wait till I can get the roof working!
Thanks again

Lowe, speaking as someone who took on a 215 in poor condition to renovate, I tip my hat to you sir!

Cheers Craig - what can I say .... sucker for punishment! lol.
Did an SL55 as a project a couple of years ago, learnt quite a bit, so it was slightly less daunting than starting from 'scratch', but has certainly grown into a bigger job than I originally envisaged! Stripping the complete interior out has actually made it easier so far, but ask me again when I try and put it all back in!! :p

I do not think that the rear shelf can be removed with the roof up.
