Hmmm... thinks to self might get an anderson connector, mount it to the underside and connect it through the boot floor the the battery...

That cap would look like it’d keep moisture out certainly, neat idea

I use andersons on a jump lead set I have. Idea originally came from my old Defender. Battery was a right royal ball ache to get to so extended the starter lead to an anderson connector under the bonnet. Plug in jump lead to anderson connector and away you go. You can connect the jump leads and when ready just connect the andersons. Quick and safe. To disconnect just pull apart.
The AA and RAC use(d?) them on their recovery vehicles for jump lead purposes.

The third light is about £100 to buy, give MB Grangemouth a call if you need one, they give good value. ;)
From what i have seen and read the replacement process is a pain in the ass though, i need mine doing but don't fancy taking the boot lid apart to do it!

Thanks for the further info. Definitely going to fit these to my car for the future. Would have saved a hell of a lot of time and aggro!
Will get the new light unit later this week.

Thanks to everyone for all help.

Cheers Dave

Much easier just to not close the boot lid without checking you have keys in pocket and battery connected.

Thanks for the ‘helpful’ comment. Had you read the thread you would see that I have the keys but that the lock unexpectedly failed. Yes it was stupid to close the boot with the battery disconnected. You never made a mistake?

Make sure you get the manual lock working when you manage to get to it, that was one of the first jobs i did on my SL.

Will do. It was working fine when I last used it a few months ago so not sure what has happened. Will post back when I have had it to bits.
