Howdy guys,

Was a rare sunny day in Ireland today with dry roads.. I decided to take the R230 out for a spin.

As usual, when I fired her up, secondary battery was low, so "consumers offline..." message appeared for a while. This is normal and usually goes away, but...

This time the SRS light persisted. I drove for a while and restarted the car to no avail.

Trying to connect to that module on my iCarsoft MB V2.0 shows a link error, prompting me to check connection, car turned on etc. I can access other modules.

I wonder is it a voltage thing and need the car to charge a bit more, or is the SRS module bust?

Where is it located? The boot has been getting a bit damp lately from condensation (not leak)..

Anybody familiar with this?

Thanks a lot.

EDIT: I'll dig out STAR and see if that can give a more specific message.

It’s bolted to the transmission tunnel, just in front of the gear selector

Sounds like a delightful way to spend a day, heh!? You suggesting it needs replacing then? Booo!

If there are no comms check with Star, (other machines have been known not to work…). If still no comms, check for power and earth at the plug on the module

Ahh couldn't get in via STAR there now. It gave a link error too.

It suggested the usual issues but one possible fix suggested was a module reset which included removing fuse.

I'll have a look at that again as it was cold outside.

I am inclined to think (hope) The module isn't completely bust as the battery was quite low after not being driven for a month.... that will teach me!

I used to have that issue and just asked the dealership to clear it down during its MOT and it never reappeared even when my consumables often went offline...

Did you jump start it?
Nope. In fact the primary battery has never let me down since buying the car. Always starts on the button. I think I'll throw the secondary battery on trickle charge now and come back to it later and see if it makes a change.

I'll also try the reset feature as outlined by STAR

Oh cool.. that sounds promising.. I will spend more time on STAR in the coming days and see what I can come up with.

I’ve just seen a few horrors over the years with blown modules. If you must, use a good quality jump pack with a surge arrestor in it. Jump leads are not recommended

I had the dreaded SRS warning light, it's an MOT fail in the UK, so not something you can ignore. Seems like I've had most problems that come up on here :(

Anyhoo, STAR said it was faulty passenger seat buckle, so we replaced that, re-set the SRS light on STAR, but sure enough the light came back on as I drove home.

So I went back to the dealership who re-set it again, and the light came on again, but after a while it went off and stayed off.

So what I am saying is, the STAR re-set process sometimes takes a while to work, for some reason.

Good luck with getting yours sorted, Conor

I know I have come across the warning not to jump start the SL500 somewhere in the accompanying technical docs, so I have tried to avoid that.. but it's probably to safeguard those, like me, that don't have much experience.... :geek:

I know this has probably been posted before, but I found this technical material online which has some useful information on the dual battery system if anybody is curious about the finder details.
Missing an attachment?

@Uncle Benz on the off chance... is there anything in the boot that could cause this if wet?

Hmm, if you had multiple modules that won’t communicate I’d check battery voltage as a first thing. Battery control unit is in the boot. I’m assuming everything else is talking? If battery voltage is good when engine running it’s unlikely to be that simple. I’d be trying a straightforward unplug and replug of the SRS control module first I think. I can’t think anything else in the boot would have a bearing on it. Check the battery connections are sound though.
