R231 SL63 Tool Kit

Does anyone know if the R231 SL63 biturbo should have a tool kit/ tool roll, and if so where is it ? I looked at one today, and we found a tyre compressor and tyre inflation kit, plus a towing eye, but no tool kit. Should it have one, and if so where ?

I just had a look in my new SL65 and no......



Though seriously my 55 only came with a jack, towing eye, compressor and some fuses. Oh and a tyre wrench

Both of my V8s have had toolkits. The 215 had a flat disk with foam rubber insert that lived on top of the spare wheel, to hold the tools; the 221 has a tool roll that lives inside the spare wheel- actually now it lives jammed between the tyre and the wheel well, as the spare gallon MB jerrycan lives in the wheel now.

Don't know about the SL but my S63 didn't even come with a jack or wheelbrace, let alone a toolkit.

A mere £120,000 for an SL63 will not buy you a toolkit from Mercedes..!

Maybe they consider owners either too old, decrepit or rich to use one ;-)?

Don't know about the SL but my S63 didn't even come with a jack or wheelbrace, let alone a toolkit.

I guess the reasoning for not supplying a toolkit is that there are no user serviceable parts, so the usual pair of pliers, double ended screwdriver and a couple of spanners in a tool roll will not make much different to keeping an SL63 on the road, the days of customers fixing their cars by the side of the road are long gone. In fact if you don't have STAR, don't even bother.

My SL55 had a tool kit containing spanners, pliers screwdrivers etc, but I never used it once in 10 years. However, it was the first thing the new owner checked for when he looked at the car !

It is a useful negotiating point among the anorak brigade, hence why I need a definitive answer.
