I've been lucky, so far, and not had to call anyone out. But, as I'm a Barclays Additions account holder, I get FREE breakdown cover as part of that..

Just thought I'd mention it, in case you also bank at Barclays!

Lloyds platinum account offers AA too.
Is it brand new? I think you get free breakdown cover as part of the warranty.
Also check you don,t get breakdown cover as a perk of your insurance.
As regards to which one is better I don,t think theres anything to choose between them now. Just join whose the cheapest, first year normally introductory membership fees going up upon renewal. Then go to other on their intrductory offer, play them at their own game

? covered by Merc mobilife for 30years IF you have Merc servicing.
That's the premise I work on and I don't think about any other cover.
Doesn't that apply?
So in a sense you can have a merc service with a £50 bonus or whatever if you then don't bother with AA/RAC.

The AA left me and 4 others at the side of the road in the rain and freezing temperatures with no power (lead snapped off starter motor which was the +12v's first port of call) for 6 hours due to them saying my vehicle was 24 feet long, the guy who came out contacted them to say it was only 18 feet therefore covered, but the AA ignored this and cancelled the truck after this guy had left.

The RAC told me in writing that my vehicle (different and still current vehicle) was covered by the policy. It was covered. Until i wanted assistance, and then suddenly it wasn't and the letter i had stating i was covered was lost on their system and as such, i must have been making it up. £450 later i left them too.

With green flag now but have yet had the need to call them out.

As with mobile phone companies, banks, credit card suppliers, gas and electricity suppliers, broadband, and everything else, each company appears to be as bad as the next.

I have never trusted Mobilife, especially when travellling in Europe which I do frequently

I suggest you get a quote from Norwich Union - I have been with them for years and including European cover paid £94 renewal this month - search on line for Norwich Union Breakdown Insurance

I did have so called cover built in with Bank account for vehicle breakdown and for travel but reading small print, decided to have seperate stand alone policy's giving cover I am happy with - reverted Bank account back to standard version and only cost me £35 being difference between Bank account charges and cost of both Policy's.

I cannot seem to find any information regarding mobilife. Can anyone point me to the right direction?

Been with Green Flag for about 15 years now, used twice in the past (BMW & Rover) first class service. Discount if Advanced Motorist.

I'm a member of the RAC - ironically I took the cover out when I bought a cheap Ford XR3i as a runabout a few years back yet never actually needed to call them till I got my AMG LOL! ;) It was one of their guys that put me on to the crank angle/position sensor as being the potential cause of my intermittent starting problem and he was right too. So, on personal experience I've had no problem with RAC and am happy to keep with them. My girlfriend had some issues with Green Flag and a good friend of mine had a lot with the AA too, hence my decision to try RAC - so far so good :)

Cheers,
Mark

Neither, check out AutoAid;
http://www.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/
This link will tell you all you need to know, but, if you do a Google search you will find out they are highly thought of.
Essentially they are a Pay and Claim service which does put a lot of people off. You will find they are incredibly cheap compared to the opposition but the service is equal, if not better.

Pay & Claim

I agreed with slender - pay & claim is just as good. Last time I called someone out (with my old Volvo, not the current Merc...yet) it was the same guys Green Flag use, but the subscription is much cheaper.

So long as you keep a credit card with you, it's fine - and I have found they re-pay me reasonably quickly after I send the invoice in.

I happen to use GEM but they're probably all much of a muchness.

I used both in the past in my Ford days but fortunately not since.
I found the RAC to be better than the AA but it is a while ago.

Your chosen Merc dealer should advise you what servicing is due and whether or not mobilife will apply after the service. One service is enough to reinstate mobilife on a recent car.
I say chosen dealer because you may want to travel a bit (as I do) to a very good one.
