Can any one help? I have a 1986 500sel /126. the car races it does 1200 revs in drive and 1500 to 1750revs when it is put in neutral or park. I have changed the Idle valve, no change, I have been told It is the ECU. does any one know where I could get one? thanks

Hello and welcome.

There is 3 parts to your system.

The throttle position switch tells the main computer that the engine is at idle, and signals the idle control relay / computer to work. The idle relay computer signals the idle control valve for correct idle speed.

The main computer controls all activity off idle´, if the correct idle is not working , the fail safe is to have a very high idle for most of the time.

The idle control relays get bad soldered joints, this could also be a vacuum fault or bad connection on the idle valve
