Fuse F325f in socket 5 in the front pre fuse box is the fan fuse for the M4/7 suction fan control box..its rated at 125 amp

Hi,

I measured today and there is a 12V supply, i guess this means the fan is knackered!

It appears to me the the fan only comes with the control box,, I know that these boxes can get water in them,,can you open it up to check

having read all this thread i am unsure why the fan is suspect? has the coolant temperature gone over 110 deg c? other wise it could just be a coolant level warning problem and nothing to do with fans or overheating. obviously the coolant level or screenwash level sensors and wiring could be faulty - or even the front sam control unit. so shipships, how hot did the coolant get?

The temperature gets to 90- 100 and the fault then appears- it does not say coolant level, its says coolant visit workshop. in the manual it says visit workshop replace fan.

the car does not overheat but its still cool outside. What is the correct tempereature for this car?

It should run at at around the 90º C mark as that is the point of where the thermostat opens,,the engine fan also gets up to full speed at this point. Electric fans cut in at 100º C .

that must be the point when the fan detected its not working as thats around the temp the fault appears.

IS there a temp sensor in the circuit that isnt turning on the fan or is that built into the module?

Do you know where the sensor is?

I knew that you would ask that,,right now no,,but I will see if I can find it,,I need the next 3 numbers after 203 to do this

i suspect that it is the sensor read by the engine ecu, which will can the info over the bus, probably read by front sam which actuates the fan. the test will be to have the car idling up to temp with a voltmeter on the fan signal wire, as it warms up the signal voltage will change (go up i think). if this waire remains 0v right up to 100deg c and above it sounds like a front sam of wiring fault. if the correct signal is present as well as constant 12+v at the feed wiring then the fan itself is faulty.

I have never found one of the sensors yet,,so you could be right Alex, but I will take another look when i get the VIN. One could also measure from the control box plug As the signal from the CAN must give a voltage change
