I was reading the radiator install instruction on mercedesshop.com and found that the updated W124 radiators have a metal insert in the radiator neck.

I've just bought one for my W124 coupe to find that there are no metal inserts and it is a guenuine merc radiator from a "stealer". Should I be worried?

If it is from MB then it is OK, it could be a different spec for the U/S markets.

Television may be right. They tend to only have the bigger engined 6 cylinder cars in US and the rads are a sideways instal.

Yours in contrast is installed upright I believe.

The sideways rads have a revised metal insert, do not know about the upright ones. I guess from your experience they do not.

agree with malcolm on this one.

US spec may well be different , mercedesshop is a US forum and not many of us on there

Did it today

It took me 2 hrs as I found that I have not replaced my 15mm spanner in the toolset since the last time I used it. Found a helpful guy with an adjustable one though.

From the mercedesshop DIY article to the "mbraingears" or something manuals I downloaded to all the forum advice I got noone said "when you've removed the hoses and the Auto trans lines, there is a nut that holds the trans inlet line to the radiator".

All I got was ".....remove the hoses and the Auto trans lines and just lift out the radiator".

"....just lift out.." became "pull or yank" until I removed the cover under the engine and saw this nut no-oneelse has seen.:-x .

Well apart from that, everyone's tips were spot so some make a smilie that combines :-x and :) and that will be appropriate for this message.

My whole body is aching..........
