Hi Guys
My wife has just returned home in her 2001 C180 with the radio not working and a ESP malfunction. Are these two related? Will the car need to go to the stealership? I checked some fuses to no avail. Any thoughts?

This one baffles me, I know of no connection between the radio and ESP

Sorry,Malcolm is it a 203 car ?

The only thing that comes to mind is a low battery voltage condition, possible leading to a loss of the radio memory, and a code required. Low batt volts will also provoke an esp fault. Is the radio completely dead or asking for a code input??

Hi Uncle, a 2001 car should be coded for life, if it is a 203 car maybe one of the SAM units has gone down, really odd fault though.

Malcolm, of course you are right! radio is coded to car, so will not require code input. My mistake.

Had another w203 with seat module draining battery today. I seem to be seeing loads of these lately. What about you??

Interesting that you should say that, I was thinking the same, maybe the damper weather is getting into them. the last one we had lost its wipers and indicators, the was a SAM module. Some of these faults are becoming impossible to work out.

Hi Guys
Thanks for your imput. The radio is quite dead and if I use the steering wheel buttons it comes up Audio - - - - on the screen. Is it asking for a code.

OK , if you start up the car and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock a couple of times, that should put out the ESP lamp, and Uncle Benz was right, and I was wrong with the radio, it is asking for a code, though from 01 most were coded for life. There must be one connection loose somewhere or it was some spike that knocked it all out.

If you do the above including re coding the radio and all is OK, wait till the next time and take it from there.

Thanks Television
ESP is now cleared, but I contacted MB as we do not have the radio code. They said it was not on their system, so into the local radio repair shop today.
