Radio not working properly

Hi all.

The standard Merc radio in my finacee's 2003 C Class Coupe doesn't work properly.

You switch the thing on and you can listed to the radio fine, but when you start moving it looses the radio signal and it goes all static and you get interference. You come to a stop and the radio starts working again.

It is like the radio cannot track the radio signals when it is moving.

The CD player works fine.

I sounds like to me that it is a loose wire on the aerial feed to the radio but I'm not sure.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Where is the radio aerial, windscreen or rear screen? How do I get the radio unit out of the dash to check the wiring?

Andrew, do you have RDS/regionalisation set appropriately? My radio allows you toggle RDS on/off by pressing and holding the RDS button. I'd need to read the manuel (sic!) to be sure whether rgionalisation (in Merc-specak) needs to be on or off but, perhaps, this is causing the loss of signal?

Re: your Radio losing its signal. I had a similar problem last week, removed the Radio and removed the Ariel conection and cleaned it with a bit of wire wool replaced it and all well again. To remove the Radio, you will need the special tool OR 4 Nitting Needles, push into the 4 holes, 2 at either end of the Radio Fashia and pull the unit out, or you can Make the tool out of an old wire cat hanger, make sure that you bevel the ends so that they will go in smoothly.
