Hi, This a general enquiry about radio reception. My previous 2006 320 cdi CLS could almost pick up the grass growing the radio reception was so good. I changed it for a 2008 CLS 63AMG which has a digital tv tuner and wonder if the radio is digital also. The reception is acceptable in and around the city but as soon as you stray far from the city the radio reception deteriorates to such an extent you just can't listen any longer. Is this common or do I have a problem with the car? Thanks.

Hi. I can feel some muppetry coming your way. Is it possible to switch from digital to analogue? Let me put it like this. I start the car the radio comes on which I have tuned to Radio 4 & 2 mostly and some local stations. Reasonable reception but as soon as I move into the country the stations break up. The tv works fine when stationary. I assumed the radio was working on the analogue system as I cannot tune into any digital broadcasts unless I switch to the tv for the radio if that makes sense. I did say there was muppetry coming your way.
John.

OK and with you now :D not DAB but digital, nothing you can do about this as just the way the signal is just patchy and hit and miss, you will have to keep to FM

Maybe I am not quite in tune here, using the TV this gives the digital stations, you have to switch to radio FM and that should be the FM band running from about 96 meg to 106 and radio 2 at near enough 89.7

Hi, Yes sorry for the confusion. It is when the radio is tuned into an fm station the problem occurs as I have described before, lose the signal when moving away from the city and that is on any fm station national radio or local.

Going by what you say now it could be possible that there is an amplifier problem or a problem with the rear screen, that houses the antenna.

It maybe possible to find some thing on STAR do you know a good indie near you

Thanks for the replies. When I return home I'll try and source an Indie, there is no way I'll ever use my local MB dealer again, worse then useless and so very unhelpful. It's strange as I said earlier my old 2006 CLS CDI, there was never a car with better reception.

Your best bet is Alex Crow in Suffolk, yes a little way to go but a brilliant indie with electronics, I would never use a dealer again for 99% of an fault
