E300 Diesel...now with less dents!
Hey all

I have a 1995 E300 saloon which was broken into a few weeks back and the stereo stolen, I have replaced all the broken glass etc and today is replacement stereo day.

The car has bullet style connectors for the audio and I have a harness to convert these to standard iso blocks. I have power working to the stereo but I can't seem to find a chart that lists the wiring colours for speakers etc to the new head unit.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

hi

you will have 4 colours

the 2 pairs in the middle of the block are for the front and the outer ones are for the rear

if you go to halfrauds they will sell you a iso to bear wire plug with them all printed on the cable once you have fitted your one just take the halfords one back

Not quiet that simple, the whole of the command and added bits works on a MOST ring or DB2, going on age, it is fiber optic and signals get sent via this ring, alfie or televison are your best source of info on here!!!

Thanks for the replies so far guys :)

Apologies for poor pics, awesome camera the iPhone isn't!

I'm thinking the best way to do it might be to take the speaker grilles off and identify the wires that way?

Jeez! People should be shot for wiring stereo's like that these days!!!

I can only say, that the power and earth wires SHOULD be easily identifiable. The speaker wires should also be easy to spot (the pairs for each speaker, at least). You could connect them up, and use the balance/fade control on the stereo to determine the correct orientation of the speaker wires..

But if you're not comfortable with vehicle electrics, then take it to someone who is! It ain't worth the risk!

Thanks for the reply.

I agree, its a bit of a nightmare in there.

Power was no problem, there was a molex style plug which simply connected straight to the harness adaptor I had purchased.

Just the speaker wires to go. I'll get the multimeter on them tomorrow and flip off the grilles. Amusingly all the wires right at the back of the space are wrapped tightly in sticky black fabric tape.

The other issue is power to the aerial, hopefully I can sort this out as well. Any suggestions as to where I should find that power connector.

When I find out the colours I'll post them up here.

I would imagine the fabric tape is genuine Mercedes. Do you have a Haynes (or other) manual? Wire colours should be in there...

Yes, I have the Haynes manual, power wiring colours are in there but sadly not the speaker wiring, or if it is I can't see it!

At least I can take the opportunity to install ipod cables and the like, might as well make a proper job!

Looks like taking out the speakers isn't too challenging either.

I'm guessing the speaker wires will be in pairs and the one with a black stripe will be the earth?

That was no fun at all.

Front left speaker...green and black wires
Front right speaker...green and black wires
Rear left....green and black

I've sorted out the front speakers and that'll do for now...its not like I'll ever sit in the back!
