Hi all, I expect this has been done to death but here goes: I have recently had my front screen replaced on my 2002 W203 Saloon due to an accident and the repair centre replaced it with one that takes a rain sensor(car does not currently have this facility). I installed the loom and the sensor is fitted but the MB garage has been unable activate the rain sensor (still works on intermitant). It seems to be fused as it shares the fuse with other bits. Is there a relay required for this? I find it frustrating that there is no variable intermittent wipe.
Cheers
Paul.

From memory I beleive it is coded in upper control unit but also runs through rear sam. I have seen a few non MB screens replaced & then the rain sensor doesn't work. A new genuine screen fixes it again. Don't want to wee on your fire.......

Hi Guys, thanks for your replys, the screen was replaced at an approved MB repairer using MB parts, I believe the rain sensor module is correct. Perhaps the guy with the laptop did not Know what he was doing?

This could be so Paul, I had the problem where I was told that my seats were faulty, by 3 operatives. When I was allowed in to help, I asked him to turn them on and I had no faults.

Totally agree, but how to tell the difference? I have many replacement whindshield problems. How do YOU tell the difference between real and fake?

Hi type 49, educate me on this one (how exactly do you tell the difference) ie what should the markings be? and if the markings are correct, cannot it still be fake. or aftermarket as you politely put it?

The SEKURIT Name and number bottom of the screen also gives the build of the car info, we always used to use these numbers when buying and selling cars.

By that I assume you mean the old screed and the new one should have the same number marked on the screen?

There are several numbers on the screen, one relates to the model of the car and and the others are a date code, I used to know how to work out the date once, this could also have been in Glasses guide.

If it says Sekurit on the screen, then it is an original OE screen. If it does not say Sekurit eric then it will not be an OE screen

Thanks for that Malcolm, but we outsource windscreen fitting and the last two jobs were terrible. Both screens did say Sekurit. One screen cracked before the next day and another one looked like the rocky mountain range along the bottom. Sent them back to be replaced again. My boss is understandably not happy about this situation and wants to know, from me , why this has happened. I dont want to say the screens are fake if I cant prove it:confused: Im supposed to be the expert, but live in a sea of fakes and windscreens I dont know enough about.

Another way of checking is that the window markings should be the same on all of the windows on the car. The windows do not display the MB symbols.

The 43R number is a safety number I believe.

Paul.

I do not think that they say anything about MB on the glass so your glass could be a non OE screen.
