Yet another heavy rain storm today and yet again the passenger footwell in my '98 W202 has a deep puddle of water in it:(. I have cleared out the drainage tubes on either side of the rear of the engine bay as I thought that these may be to blame (having read similar threads on this forum). But this has not changed anything.

I did read on another thread that the sunroof maybe the point of water entry. Is this likely? I opened the sunroof and found a trace of water on both sides on the inside. Obviously the seal needs replacing for this.

Would any water entering at the sunroof reach the footwell? If so, how? If not, where else should I look for water entry? Bear in mind that there is close to half a litre of water in the car after a one hour rainstorm so the entry point must be reasonably large.

Hello,

My dad had a problem with his C200 estate years ago, was told it could be the seals around the window.

Also the garage said you will hit a stone on teh way home....my dad looked confused.. Basically if the window is cracked its a free replacement.

Its a funny story how he did this, but lets just say a new window and sealent was fitted and cured the leak and wet passenger mat...

Hi,
It will be your heater intake ducting its under your windscreen wiper theres is a drain which becomes blocked.
Cant tell you in detail how you do it as it was cleared for me by a windscreen fitter fitting new screen for me.
He removed the black trim in front of the windscreen and the wiper complete which exposed it. It may be accessible just removing black trim but i recommend you take wiper off as well and grease the linkage/gearbox at the same time as this is a very common fault and very expensive to repair.
Hope this is of some help

Don't worry about your sunroof unless the drains are blocked, the seal is not intended to keep all the water out and any which gets past the seal will go down the drains.

Thanks for all of your input.

Glad to hear its not the sunroof as the Haynes manual suggests that any work to this is a dealer job.

I did think that the windscreen seal might be to blame and thought about breaking it in order to get a new screen and seal fitted at minimal cost, but naturally I wanted to try all other possibilities first as this is a little extreme.

The blocked drain is worth a look at. I only cleared the drain holes on either side of the engine bay as I didn't realise there would be one hidden in the centre. So I'll try this first but if the problem still exists I'll get the sledgehammer out.
