Ok, so we all own or want to own a mercedes! most of us on here do im guessing, just reading through some of the threads on here tonight and getting more wound up by the minute, why dont merc do a recall on this, why not on that?
Now is it just me or is merc the only brand that does recalls on say, a 6 year 220 for a ICM, or repanel and paint a 7 year rusty 210, hence most of the time free of charge, give you a 30 year breakdown cover, see where i going with this! now am i right in thinking people on this site think because they own a merc that merc should pay for everything that ever go wrong, no, buy a BMW, you only get 3 year warranty then you pay for everything, and join the RAC!!! i just feel people are buying a merc thinking they are going to have a life time back up, thats not the case, i own a 203 which i know has many faults, i didnt buy it for any other reason than i love the car and it makes me feel good everytime i drive it!! radio and phone kit playing up, booked in, 2hours later new radio and phone kit, cost to me,£0.00, thats a 4 year old car with used warranty,
i guess what im trying to say to a few of the members of this site, if you can,t afford to service one and pay for replacing parts then buy a ford, simple,
ok rant over,

2005 C270CDi Avantgarde Estate. Bought 2005, sold 2022.
A Mercedes should be guaranteed for ever and sealed for life so that it never has to go near the dealership.

I kinda agree with ya, from what I can make out, Boom Britain has meant that, people have had more disposable cash, which they have max'ed out to buy a house with a too big mortgage , and stretched themselves to buy a merc, which now they cant afford to maintain.

If i didnt work on them them i would also struggle to afford it as well.

I agree, if you can't afford to run one there's no point in buying a Merc.......and yes they have become more affordable to those with disposable incomes BUT being as BMW have now gone into the 'As affordable as a Ford/Toyota/Honda' etc etc etc bracket where else do you look for a bit of extra elegance/class than a Merc?

Its the next obvious choice for some..............

i think thats wrong i bought a merc because i wanted something with style but wont go wrong all the time since having mine under a year i knew id have to put my hand in my pocket to maintain it and fix the odd thing such as
1 manifold cracked
1 o2 sensor
indicator lenses cracked
wheel bearing going at motorway speed welding the hub and other various parts but when it comes to going to merc dealer to be told you have stopped the oil leaking into the loom via the camshaft adjuster but need a new loom ohh and by the way you need to fit the MOD from mercedes to prevent it happening again which tells me they know all to well theres a fault with the car from factory that takes the **** as for the rust if it comes with a 10 or 30 year warranty than yes they should fix it for free without hesitation its disgracefull that a car less than 10 years should rust so bad considering the price paid from new and that the car is supposed to be one of the premium brands in the world

Yes i agree and it was reading your thread ( and others ) which got to me, if you had bought a 3 series BMW with 90000 thousands miles and 8 years old would you expect them to replace the wiring loom FOC, and belive me they have many more problems than merc, i know its a fault with your model and many others but its an 8 year old car and the rust would be taken care of if the services have been carried out correctly, i know you're pis,,, off but what do you really expect, i think merc hold up to their end very well, the thing about this site is you only hear of the bad side of merc owners and never the good side, would be nice once in a while to hear that somebody has had the great back up as i have, and thats why i wouldnt want any other car!!

i know bmw have lots of trouble too and im aware that my car is 8 years old and now covered 90k but wouldnt you think that as its got merc history and its a known fault that sometime during one of its visits for service mercedes would have said we recognise we didnt quite get the 230k right so we will add the mod to prevent us replacing the wiring loom and build a good reputation for the company but no they just practically laugh at you and say your problem now mate that to me just isnt on i dont expect them to replace the wiring loom the damage is done it shouldnt have been allowed to happen shoddy service and yes bmw are much the same ive heard some good stories about merc but more bad ones and it only takes one bad thing to erase 10 good

I disagree Im sorry! These cars are expensive cars! Why should you pay £40K for a car and have these big problems arh? Moneys not the issue its the principal mate.

I own an e class - money isnot an issue its the annoying issue of having to keep taking it to mercs having things done to it! I have had fords, peg etc and none had this many problems. So again, its not money its the inconvience it causes!

In all fairness it must be said that a few lousy dealers give the marque a bad name and are plain greedy and unhelpful

but can you really expect them to cure every single fault mercs have, which i know is a lot, but then you dont just own a car which everybody has, we,as merc lovers own one of these because in my mind it makes driving a pleasure, and god forbid we get hit by something, but we will walk out of it, thats why i would never drive anything other, i love the merc brand but i think people expect so much, if they went back to the old way i recon 75% of us would never be able to afford a merc, i know i couldnt, the whole point of this thread was that merc ARE still the best and we as customers forget that, technology has moved on, things are not as they used to be, look at other brands and tell me im wrong!!

Mercedes have to compete with the service other dealers give.

I take it from your thread you bought your car used , i wonder if you would feel the same if you had bought new for £40k plus and ended up with a clearly poorly made car???

I have a Nissan, Skoda and Mercedes and guess which is the brand i've been most dissapointed in???

Its all very well saying they repair rust under warranty but its not the same , the paint doesnt match and the claim process isnt easy , mine was repaired back in Jan and the rsut is back ....great service eh???

You get great warranties on Kia's nowadays but that doesnt make them good cars!!!
