Hi all,

I am currently retrofitting the reversing camera to my car. I have NTG2.5 fitted and I have the following cable fitted.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Green-60...Coaxial_Cables_Connectors&hash=item4cfc7582c2

I have a RCA cable supplied with the camera, like this one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10m-meter...r_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27c9534da6

I was told they would fit, and now I am in the fitting and the RCA does not connect.

Any ideas or connectors I could use? I would have thought it needed a female RCA...?

Thanks again

Yes that first one is not an RCA, not sure what they mean with that socket, the only standard one is the F connector for the antenna.

You could cut the plug off and use a RCA socket

Thanks Television :)

This may sound silly, however what type of wire will there be if I decide to cut it? Will it be a special type considering it is a video cable or not?

They do try and keep video plugs etc screened, but you can get metal RCA sockets fully screened.

When working with these cables, cutters are not much use, so once the outer plastic is off by cutting round with a knife, push the screening back, with a small screwdriver make a hole in the screen by forcing the strands of wire apart, then bend the inner plastic wire down and hook up through the hole that you have made, so you now have 2 wires, use a match to melt the inner plastic and pull it off with you finger nail, and you have 2 wires that can be soldered to the RCA socket, I may have a spare screened RCA socket

Hi Television,

Thanks, not a straight forward fix then.

Can these cables be bought as one or do you know anywhere who sells the screened RCA socket?

Thanks

I have enlarged the picture on the end on the one with the Facra connection, and it does not look to be a RCA

I can pop one in the post to you in the morning FOC

Hi Television,

Thank you for the kind offer.

I do not like taking items off people for free.

More so, in an ideal situation I would like to sort it out tomorrow. Failing that would your offer still stand for a small fee?

Would the adaptor in my last post work?

I have checked the connection and a tv aerial coaxial fits perfectly.

That is OK with the TV coax plug, but they are near on impossible to fit the smaller cable of the camera lead. You can get a coax plug to RCA socket adaptor

Do you have a Maplins near you, they should keep a metal RCA socket.

My offer was such that I am sinking in components that I will never use, and they will end up in the tip

Any RS will have them, so will CPC or Farnell, it depends where you live.

A top end Hi Fi shop should keep them, probably gold plated

Or I can slip it in the post, but that holds you up :(

:) What is that?

Doesn't the Male and female just connect?

Never seen a male female version,,normally just two plugs and a joiner, but in any case its only a threaded coupling, it could be already on it, so no worries, they will sort you out

If you see this before you go shopping, as the camera lead does not have a high quality fitting, just get a standard phono RCA socket, its only being used when you reverse.

The plastic plugs on those leads are reasonably screened but just standard

Good mine came from there, so just a metal in line phono socket.

The Sevenoaks hi Fi shop in St Albans road should have one
