Hello: have had my 2016 E 220d cabriloet since the start of January 2023 - purchased at 28700 miles (ish). Given its low profile tyres / wheels and the state of the roads in this country i drive it slower and acclerate slower than my 2005 MG ZT CDTI (2 litre) that returned 45mpg and over 50 on a run. It was often driven hard as i had quite big distances ro cover within GB. My E220d is doing around 40 / 41mpg (done the accurate way by working out gallons used and what is put in at the petrol station). Not been on a long run yet but doing about 250 miles a week on localish driving. What experience do others have of what these cars do mpg wise? (my big diesel does about 1 mpg on full power i believe but i don't have to pay for that)!

Thanks
Steve

I ran a 2016 E220d saloon and did ~48k miles in 18 moths in it - it would regularly return over 80mpg on a 3 hr 180 mile run and was >60mpg average for all the time I had it - Generally 2 long runs a week and 5 days of 8 mile return commuting.

Mine was before all the engine management updates that appear to reduce economy.

My figures were calculated tank to tank in one of my myriad of spreadsheets ;)
If I fire my laptop up I’ll pull out the exact figures

My e350 gets up to 48 mpg on a long run for example 100 miles . Steady 65 /70. In 9th. I don't worry about economy, if it requires fuel it gets it.

2009 W211 E-Class E280 Sport Estate (OM642 3-litre diesel V6), 3x remapped, now returned to stock
3 litre V6 diesel (OM642).

Currently averaging 30-32 mpg. This is mainly longish trips as I have a Fiat Panda for pottering about.

This consumption is dreadful, I know, but I really like the car...

Around town that isn't that low for an MB 4 pot (if you aren't driving like a loon).
Long run you should be well into the 50s, close on 60....
Any codes?

I’m getting >32mpg average for ~75k miles in my V6 3.0…

(Mines petrol though)…

The w219 CLS I had was diesel and 7g economy was shyte , it's no wonder they made a 9g gearbox. Even over 100's of miles the mpg wouldn't improve.

The wife's 2016 SLC250d 9 speed the same engine & gearbox I believe does 49mpg overall between services. 60mpg on a 60 mile drive to our son's, & 70mpg on a 130 mile run to London.
My 2012 E350CDI does about 48mpg between services, but is only used on long runs. Picture is of a run in Germany a few years back in the 212.

Your SLC uses the 2.1ltr OM651, the E220d uses the OM654 2.0ltr engine - which is generally much more economical

I can't see a problem with that consumption .... ..... I can eek mid/high 30's from my ML 350 but I can also see low 20's if I take everyone on from the lights (not that I would ;)

What is meant by "codes" please?

I will have a look at temperature gauge tomorrow and report back.

As to what car i have i find all these numbers as regards model iterations confusing. My car was registered in September 2016 and chassis number starts WDD207 - I think it might be an A207 - it is not the current shape and has a 7 speed automatic gearbox. Overall nice car but so far mpg disappointing. Can get in the low twenties with my 6,750cc Bentley Turbo 'R' and its much older automatic box.

So far done around 1k miles in it and driven in much softer manner than i did in my working life.

Thanks to all for your replies.

Steve
