I bought a year 2000 S320 in July 07.

I noticed in the service history that the rear pads only lasted about 15000 motor way miles. The garage (non MB) changed the pads and found nothing else wrong. They then wore out after a similar amount of miles but the front pads have not and still have lots of wear left.

I had my mechanic look at the callipers and discs and found nothing wrong.

The MB dealership state they have now worn about 20% after 6000K.

Can anyone offer any possible explanations?

many thanks

There are two possible reasons.

The rear brakes as in the link are single piston and known as sliding shoe.
If the sliding part is not lubricated,, then this can cause one pad to wear out much quicker than the other one.

The other reason,, if the incorrect pads have been fitted to the front, then this could upset the braking ratio.
