Some of you may have come across my vehicle on the ‘Deep Rumble’ thread. Well since then I was rear ended on the motorway by a van. Just trying to gauge if anybody can see any likely damage, and guess at the cost?

Just trying to get ahead of the insurance.

That look like Thousands in damage, never mind the unseen damage (subframe, suspension, crash structure, Brakes), that could be a write off.

I bet the bumper alone is £1500 plus spraying and fitting

Well if I’m going to cheap self fix option I can source a tailgate plus bumper in black for approx £450 all in used. The outside lights seem to have survived, and it seems to be focused on the tailgate and structure around that.

What is the structure called underneath, is it a rear crumple zone that can be bolted on?

Hope you and any occupants are OK. Damage does not look too bad, although could still be expensive, as JB has said.

Structure looks OK, but you can't really tell by looking at a photo. A good body shop should be able to give you a quote.

If you can source the parts yourself, that will save £££s. If the body alignment is out, the car could well be a write-off.

If the floor pan is crumpled they will write off the car

Why would you do that? If someone rear ended you then it is their fault and their insurance should be paying for it all

Hard to say without looking in the spare wheel well.
Any distortion there and it's a write off.

Unless you brake checked him, then the the vans insurers will be all over you (helpfully I'd hope)

Let their repairer do the hard work and just wait whilst you're in a hire car which they arrange.
They'll repair or offer you money for you to repair (Cat N) or take it off your hands.

Have at least 3 AT adverts to hand to negotiate the best value.
Tell them you can take your time as it's their hire car your in (at a few hundred a week) and they should settle either option B or C above quickly.

Trust no injuries in your car, and perverse to ask, but was the van driver okay?

Why not take it to a body shop and get them to do a proper inspection and quote? - or you could continue to ask random people to guess.

Just let the insurers do their job. We all pay them handsomely enough

OP, how are you getting on post crash, both you and car?
Any assessment yet?
